In hip hop's move from margin to center, many have come along for the ride, challenging the very notion of cultural ownership. But is the white emcee's relationship to hip hop one of political resistance to the dominant white culture? Or now that hip hop IS mainstream does white engagement equate selling out? Can white youth love, participate in and respect black cultural production? Or does the movement's current global multi-billion dollar industry status suggest hip hop is no longer "a black thang?"
